Hasselt – Raw Stadia has introduced an innovative data system aimed at providing real-time feedback on pitch quality to groundskeepers, while the Pro League has unveiled the Pitch HUB to disseminate maintenance tips; Tristan Selis emphasized the use of player-simulating technology, reports 24brussels.
Based in Hasselt, Raw Stadia’s new system seeks to enhance the quality of football pitches for Belgian professional clubs. At Anderlecht’s stadium, the Pro League presented a pitch management manual that establishes mandatory standards for pitch quality applicable to teams in both the Jupiler Pro League and the Challenger Pro League.
“You get immediate feedback on what needs to be done with the field.”
According to Tristan Selis of Raw Stadia, the system integrates specialized hardware with data analysis to provide groundskeepers with actionable insights.
Capabilities of Raw Stadia’s System for Natural and Artificial Turf
Selis stated,
“We provide clubs with equipment that simulates player movements.”
This involves applying weight onto the pitch, which assesses critical parameters such as hardness, moisture, grass density, and wear. This data allows for timely measures, including aeration and hardening of the ground.
Groundskeepers are equipped to follow precise guidelines for active pitch maintenance. The Pro League is also launching Pitch HUB, a platform for grounds managers to exchange knowledge, experiences, and practical advice. This initiative aims to enhance recognition of pitch managers and accelerate professional development within Belgian football.
The manual primarily targets natural grass pitches; however, clubs utilizing artificial turf are currently exempt. For instance, STVV, competing on artificial turf at Stayen, reports no issues with their playing surface. Team manager Peter Delorge mentioned,
“STVV adapts well to the conditions, and the artificial turf at Stayen can even provide a tactical advantage.”
The facility features newly installed artificial turf that complies with FIFA standards. Such pitches are typically inspected annually to ensure they maintain international quality norms and provide a consistent playing experience.
In 2023, the Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) alongside the Pro League initiated a nationwide effort to standardize pitch quality in Belgium. This project aimed to guarantee all professional clubs uphold high standards for both natural and artificial surfaces.
Comprehensive maintenance guidelines were established, and a routine inspection system was put in place to ensure compliance and consistent pitch conditions. Raw Stadia played a key role in this effort, supplying advanced technology to monitor and assess pitch impact on player performance.
