Ingrid Scheepers set to become new mayor of Gingelom in 2027

Gingelom, Belgium – Ingrid Scheepers will assume the role of mayor of Gingelom on January 1, 2027, succeeding Patrick Lismont, who will retire at 67 after a distinguished career in local politics. Lismont has dedicated 11 years to the mayoral position, along with 21 years as an alderman and 6 years on the municipal council, reports 24brussels.

In her upcoming tenure, Scheepers plans to continue several ongoing projects, including enhancements to a daycare facility, improvements to the town hall, upgrades to sports facilities, and the development of a bike path. She emphasized the importance of honoring Lismont’s current projects, stating that decision-making will remain focused on respecting the groundwork laid by her predecessor before significant alterations are made.

Scheepers explained the necessity of completing existing initiatives. “We developed the current policies together,” she noted. “It is important to finish the projects already planned.”

Who will lead Gingelom after Patrick Lismont and continue key projects?

Reflecting on her political journey, Scheepers views the mayoralty as a significant responsibility and expresses confidence in her party’s support. “We are a close team and have had an absolute majority for years,” she said, indicating a solid foundation for her leadership.

Patrick Lismont expressed his satisfaction with Scheepers as his successor. His endorsement signals continuity in ongoing projects and policies, as he stated, “We’ve known each other for years and have worked as a team for years, so the succession is assured.” Lismont also noted that Scheepers received the second-highest number of preferential votes, making her succession a natural progression.

Having been involved in Gingelom politics since 2006, Scheepers initially served as a councillor before becoming an alderman. In 2016, she made history by becoming the municipality’s first female alderman, currently overseeing environmental, cultural, and social employment responsibilities.

Patrick Lismont has been a pivotal figure in Gingelom politics for decades. Starting his political career in 1989, he transitioned from a municipal council member to an alderman in 1994 and has served as mayor since 2016. His tenure has seen substantial developments, including the establishment of a new daycare center and the renovation of the town hall area, along with enhancements to community sports and recreational facilities.
