Paris – Today, France and Britain lead the Coalition of the Willing in discussions to establish security guarantees for Ukraine amid ongoing efforts for a peace agreement with Russia, reports 24brussels.

French President Emmanuel Macron hosts a meeting with European leaders, including Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, aimed at translating political commitment into actionable guarantees. These guarantees are intended to provide Ukraine assurance that any potential peace arrangements with Russia will be reliable.

Welcoming Zelensky in Paris last night, Macron announced that following extensive collaboration among military planners, Europe is now ready to offer these guarantees. The political backing for this initiative is set to be solidified in today’s discussions.

Which European leaders joined Zelensky at the Paris summit?

Belgium’s Bart de Wever, Finland’s Alexander Stubb, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and Portugal’s António Costa were among the first leaders to arrive at the Élysée Palace. Poland’s Donald Tusk and Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen are also taking part in the summit.

Why does Mark Rutte reject Russia’s say on Ukraine troops?

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte stated that Russia cannot dictate the deployment of Western troops to Ukraine as part of security guarantees following a ceasefire. He emphasized Ukraine’s sovereignty in this matter.

“Why are we interested in what Russia thinks about troops in Ukraine? It’s a sovereign country. It’s not for them to decide,”

Rutte affirmed.

“Russia has nothing to do with this. … Ukraine is a sovereign nation. If Ukraine wants to have security guarantee forces in Ukraine to support the peace deal, it’s up to them. Nobody else can decide about it.”

Rutte stated he aims to highlight the necessity of bolstering European military capabilities to ensure the continent’s security, especially given the significant military investments by “Russia and China” at an unprecedented pace.

When did the Coalition of the Willing last meet?

The last Coalition of the Willing meeting occurred virtually on August 13, 2025, co-chaired by the UK Prime Minister and attended by over 30 international leaders who discussed updates on peace negotiations, security guarantees for Ukraine, and strategies for exerting further pressure on Russia.
