Hemiksem – The principal of Het Klaverbos in Hemiksem will not resume her duties from September 1, 2025, following a mounting tension within the school community. The principal of De Regenboog will temporarily oversee both institutions while receiving assistance from the local municipality and external stakeholders, amid ongoing protests and a comprehensive review, reports 24brussels.
As reported by VRT News, concerns regarding the principal’s management style had escalated among teachers and parents over the preceding months. The growing dissatisfaction with her decisions prompted significant unrest within the school environment.
What happens to Het Klaverbos’ leadership in Hemiksem after the principal leaves?
City spokesperson Goossens confirmed that the principal will not return to her position as scheduled.
“There is still a process underway regarding the director, and I cannot comment on that yet. But what I can confirm is that the current director of Het Klaverbos will not start on September 1,”
According to Goossens, the principal of De Regenboog will temporarily manage responsibilities at both schools, supported by the head of the municipal education department and an external consultant. This arrangement is deemed provisional due to the challenges of one principal overseeing two schools concurrently.
“The most important thing is that the children can start their school year well with teachers who feel comfortable at school,”
Rita Goossens (N-VA), the alderman for education, emphasized the importance of providing a stable start for students.
She further stated,
“We hope that calm can return and that parents and teachers see that we are actively working on this issue and not postponing it.”
Goossens highlighted the necessity for a positive environment for children as they begin the academic year, ensuring teachers feel supported and confident in their roles.
This year has been particularly challenging for the leadership of the two municipal primary schools in Hemiksem. In June 2025, a silent protest emerged among parents and teachers of Het Klaverbos at the town hall to voice their criticism of the principal’s management and policies. In response, the municipal council initiated an external review of the school’s state.
