Vercammen Woonprojecten Donates €15,000 to Jessa Hospital’s Children’s Fund

Hasselt – Vercammen Woonprojecten has donated €15,000 to the Children’s Fund of Hasselt’s Jessa Hospital, an initiative aimed at enhancing the hospital’s facilities for young patients. The contribution, made in celebration of the company’s 25th anniversary, will support renovations in the adolescent and children’s hospital areas, reports 24brussels.

The donation comes as the hospital seeks to upgrade its facilities to provide a more welcoming environment for children. CEO Ivo Vercammen expressed that instead of traditional anniversary celebrations with gifts and flowers, they opted for a charitable approach, encouraging guests to make donations to the hospital.

“We already celebrated with our partners, suppliers, and loyal customers. This time, we wanted to show kindness to others,” Vercammen stated.

Jan Bert Willems, care manager at Jessa Hospital, added that the initiative aims to refresh the adolescent ward, improve its aesthetics, and update its entertainment options, including the installation of a new flat-screen TV and a game console.

“Together, we’re going to refresh the adolescent area in the children’s ward, redecorate it, and pimp it up a bit,” Willems noted.

The funding will facilitate improvements across various hospital spaces dedicated to children. Willems explained that surgical and other medical activities occur in dedicated rooms, while areas for educational and recreational activities are crucial for long-stay patients. The new teen room is part of a broader effort to enhance leisure and therapeutic options for young patients.

To design the new space, Vercammen Woonprojecten has engaged a professional interior designer to create a 3D concept that will be refined in collaboration with the hospital’s leadership before implementation. Willems remarked,

“There’s room for it in our operating budget, but thanks to donations like this, we can do a little extra,”

He emphasized the hospital’s commitment to improving the experience of young patients, despite the financial limitations involved in executing various enhancements.

“We always have countless ideas to make the stay more pleasant for children of all ages, but unfortunately, these are expensive projects for which we have to rely on external donations,” Willems added.

The Children’s Fund at Jessa Hospital has been operational since 2018, providing a structured means for donors to contribute to various projects aimed at supporting young patients. Since its inception, the fund has financed the development of play areas, educational spaces, and therapeutic rooms, relying on support from local organizations and individuals.
