Genk – A 29-year-old man from Mol sustained serious injuries due to an accident involving a wind turbine in Genk. After a five-hour rescue operation and subsequent surgery, his condition stabilized and he is now recovering well, reports 24brussels.
The incident occurred on Friday evening, August 29, 2025, when the man became trapped in the turbine’s gears while performing maintenance work. Fortunately, his colleague was unharmed and promptly alerted emergency services, who managed to stabilize the victim before he was airlifted to the hospital.
Jurgen Ritzen, a spokesperson for ZOL, commented, “The emergency doctor was with him at all times, even at height, and spoke with the victim continuously to reassure him.” Doctors performed late-night surgery on his left hand and arm, which had suffered traumatic injuries, fearing amputation could be necessary. The medical team successfully avoided this outcome, and he has since been moved from intensive care to a standard ward.
