Belgium Set to Shine at Gamescom 2025
From 20 to 24 August, Cologne will once again host Gamescom, Europe’s biggest video games fair. The event is expected to welcome more than 1,500 exhibitors from 72 countries. Belgium will be there in full force, hoping to stand out in a crowded industry, reports 24brussels.
Nearly 60 Belgian studios and professionals will travel to Germany. For the first time, the country will have two separate stands: one for Wallonia and another for Flanders together with Brussels. This division aims to enhance practicality, as Wallonia primarily hosts start-ups and student projects, while Flanders is home to larger studios.
Jean Gréban of Walga, the Walloon games federation, highlighted that the southern region focuses on visibility, skill development, and building international networks, particularly targeting markets such as Brazil and Asia. He asserted that Belgium’s strength lies in the independent games sector, which presents lower financial risks compared to blockbuster “triple-A” titles like GTA VI.
Some of the Belgian games on display will include the puzzle-horror Time To Wake Up, the survival game Jester: A Foolish Ritual, and the gentle exploration title Nayu, featuring an adventurous little otter.
Though the fair opens to the public on Thursday, most Belgian teams will concentrate on the professional days beginning Wednesday, a key opportunity for forging industry connections.
