On Saturday 2 August, the city of Antwerp will once again celebrate Museum Night, a highly anticipated annual event. From 7 p.m. until 1 a.m., 20 museums will open their doors late into the night, offering guided tours, workshops, performances and other activities.
Each participating venue aims to stand out by offering unique, one-night-only experiences. At AMUZ, singer Romain Dayez will take audiences on a journey through a fusion of Gregorian chants, electronica and classical music.
Meanwhile, the M HKA contemporary art museum will take visitors on a cosmic journey with an immersive projection of 2,500 stars on a vast dome, all centred around the theme of ‘space’. This year’s official afterparty will be held at De Studio.
Open despite renovation
Even museums that are currently closed for renovation are getting involved. Museum Vleeshuis is opening its disused office spaces to host live illustration sessions by Belgian artists, including Nina Aerts, Auwnanas and Niet Nu Laura.
At the Rubens House, visitors will be invited into the Rubenstuin (Rubens Garden), and the nearby Maagdenhuis will collaborate with the Museum Mayer van den Bergh to display highlights from its collection alongside live performances.
Advance tickets cost €20 (€15 for under-26s) and will be available from Thursday, 26 June via www.museumnacht.be. If you can’t fit everything in on the night itself, your wristband will also grant you access to any participating museum until 31 August.
