World Premiere of The Smurfs: The Film Takes Over Brussels

Brussels hosted the world premiere of The Smurfs: The Film on Saturday, coinciding with World Smurf Day. The event transformed the Mont des Arts into a vibrant celebration, attracting several hundred fans to the gardens.

The premiere attracted around 700 guests, including director Chris Miller and stars James Corden, Dan Levy, and Rihanna. Attendees enjoyed a celebratory atmosphere with various activities, while approximately 300 fans were allowed in a designated fan zone near the blue carpet, with many more gathering outside to view the event on large screens.

Festivities included Smurf hats, blueberries, face painting, photo booths, and a prize wheel featuring themed giveaways. The day kicked off with a performance by the Brussels Ballet Morane, inspired by the film’s opening dance. Corden and Levy were seen engaging with fans along the blue carpet, with Corden taking photos with attendees.

Earlier in the day, the iconic Manneken Pis statue was dressed in a Smurf Without a Name costume during a traditional ceremony. Brussels Mayor Philippe Close and Véronique Culliford, daughter of Smurfs creator Peyo, were present. “We are happy to remind people that Brussels is the home of The Smurfs,” Close stated.

Culliford received an honorary diploma from the Order of the Friends of Manneken Pis, recalling that her mother once designed an outfit for the statue in 1988 for the Smurfs’ 30th anniversary. The costume for this year was created by Sophie Wéry, known for her decade-long contributions to Manneken Pis’s attire.

The Smurfs: The Film will be released in cinemas on 16 July, following Smurfette and Smurf Without a Name on a mission to rescue Papa Smurf from the clutches of Razamel and Gargamel.
