Bruges Celebrates Launch of Brusk Art Gallery with Grand Festivities

The artwork La Grande Araignée is on display on Friday evening on the Belfry of Bruges. The giant spider by street theatre company Compagnie La Machine heralds the opening weekend of the new Brusk art gallery in the city. The public can explore the building before its official opening in May 2026, when its first formal exhibitions will start, reports 24brussels.

Bruges is marking the debut of the Brusk art gallery this weekend with a series of vibrant celebrations. A prominent feature of the festivities is the enormous spider installation by Compagnie La Machine, which has been captivating audiences at ‘t Zand square for a week. As of Friday evening, the spider can be seen atop the Belfry, before returning to ‘t Zand to roam around the square and Visart park throughout the weekend.

In addition to the spider, the Belgian collective Lyapunov is presenting an impressive highline act, where a nearly 400-meter rope will be stretched 70 meters above ground between the Belfry and the Church of Our Lady. A tightrope walker will traverse this installation, with performances extending to Sunday, featuring dance, aerial acrobatics, and live music.

The public will also have the opportunity to visit the Brusk art gallery for the first time, where the artist collective Numen/For Use will unveil an expansive tape art installation resembling a web structure. This opening will feature a sound composition by Bruges composer Patrick Hamilton, adding to the immersive artistic experience.
