French-Spanish singer-songwriter Manu Chao will perform three times in Belgium at the end of May for his new “Ultra Acoustic” tour. He will play at the “Human’City” concert in Brussels, the Afro Latino Festival in Genk and the new “COPA DOK” festival in Ghent.
Manu Chao gained fame in the early 1990s as the frontman of the band Mano Negra and then broke through worldwide with his solo albums “Clandestino” and “Proxima Estación: Esperanza!”. He scored a worldwide hit with the song “Me gustas tu”. In the autumn of 2024, after many years, the 63-year-old artist released a brand new album: “Viva Tu”.
The singer, known for his commitment to social justice, has chosen to perform in alternative settings rather than in large, high-profile concert halls. In the Brussels commune of Schaerbeek, Manu Chao will on 29 May take part in the Human’City solidarity event, organised in the Josaphat Park by and for the benefit of BelRefugees, a citizens’ platform in support of refugees.
The former leader of La Mano Negra will also be performing in Ghent and Genk a few days earlier, on 21 and 25 May respectively. Here too, he has opted for less conventional venues. In Ghent, he will be playing at th e new “COPA DOK” festivalon the industrial site of the port for the non-profit organisation Anamma. Four days later, he will perform in Genk, where he will join in celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Afro Latino Festival.
