Fire at Tomorrowland’s Main Stage
Tomorrowland is set to proceed as scheduled this weekend, despite a fire that destroyed the festival’s main stage on Wednesday. “There are no casualties,” said festival spokesperson Debby Wilmsen. “The employees are all safe and can continue with the Tomorrowland preparations,” reports 24brussels.
Wilmsen reassured attendees that the fire will not hinder the festival. “There’s a lot of fake news going around, but we’re definitely expecting 38,000 visitors at the Dreamville campsite tomorrow. They’re looking forward to it, and we’re going to give them a warm welcome,” she stated. “The festival will go ahead, albeit without the main stage. I can’t yet say how we’re going to handle that.”
The fire erupted at the festival site in Boom, where approximately 1,000 workers were present. All personnel were safely evacuated, and no injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Witnesses indicated they heard fireworks, and some sources speculate that the blaze might have originated during a fireworks cannon test, though this information has yet to be officially confirmed.
Thick smoke was visible from afar, exacerbated by strong winds. Authorities advised locals to avoid the area to facilitate emergency responses.
All activities planned for Thursday at the Dreamville campsite and in Brussels will occur as scheduled. The main festival is expected to commence on Friday, welcoming over 100,000 visitors throughout the weekend. International guests have already started arriving.
Belgian DJ Charlotte De Witte was slated to perform at the main stage on Saturday. Adjustments to the schedule are still under consideration.
The incident has raised concerns regarding safety protocols at large events, and organizers are under pressure to ensure a secure environment for all attendees as the festival approaches.
A further update on the situation and festival arrangements will be communicated as additional information becomes available. Tomorrowland continues to be a significant event in the electronic music scene, drawing in thousands from across the globe.
