Amazon Plans Relaunch of Luna Cloud Gaming Service with New Social Features
Amazon is set to relaunch its Luna cloud gaming service later this year, introducing a new social ‘GameNight’ feature designed to enhance multiplayer interaction among Prime subscribers, reports 24brussels.
The relaunch, announced by Amazon Luna head Jeff Gattis, aims to attract more subscribers by focusing on party games similar to offerings from Jackbox Games. The redesigned service will enable users to participate in multiplayer gaming by scanning a QR code with their phones, which will serve as game controllers. More than 25 titles will be available at launch, including popular games such as Angry Birds and adaptations of classic board games like Taboo and Clue.
Notably, Amazon is also developing exclusive games for the GameNight feature, starting with Courtroom Chaos: Starring Snoop Dogg. This game, described as a “human-built, AI-powered improv courtroom game,” features players defending themselves in a courtroom presided over by Snoop Dogg.
GameNight will be included at no extra cost for Prime subscribers, with additional games expected to be added over time. While Amazon has not provided a specific launch date, the rollout is anticipated to occur in the coming weeks, given the current date in October.
The scope of the upcoming redesign remains somewhat ambiguous beyond the introduction of the new social gaming category. Gattis hinted at broader ambitions, stating that the participation of Snoop Dogg in GameNight is merely the starting point. Amazon plans to leverage AI technology to further innovate cloud gaming, although it remains unclear whether such advancements will extend beyond the GameNight feature.
“With advances in AI and cloud technology, we see opportunities to create entirely new kinds of games – experiences that were never possible before,” Gattis remarked. “We have an incredible pipeline of games in the works and can’t wait for you to play and experience the all-new Luna for yourself later this year.”
