Amazon Expands 4K Streaming Stick Line, Complicating Choices for Consumers

Amazon recently announced the release of its new 4K Select streaming stick, set to launch on October 15, 2025, amidst ongoing confusion regarding its naming and positioning alongside existing models. This addition will join the ranks of the 4K and 4K Max versions, presenting a challenge for consumers trying to navigate their choices in Amazon’s ever-expanding lineup, reports 24brussels.

The 4K Select is priced at $39.99, presenting a similar cost to the more advanced 4K Max, which has led to customer uncertainty over which model to choose. In contrast, the original 4K stick is currently available for $24.99. The overlap in pricing and naming conventions may mislead buyers regarding the capabilities of each device.

In terms of features, the original Fire TV Stick 4K surpasses the 4K Select with its support for Wi-Fi 6, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos, in addition to having increased memory capacity. To alleviate consumer confusion, Amazon spokesperson Zack Brown confirmed that a new name for the Fire TV Stick 4K will be introduced soon. This change aims to help customers distinguish between the devices, signaling Amazon’s commitment to clarity in its product offerings.

The impending name change has sparked speculation about what the new designation might be, with suggestions like 4K Plus or 4K Alexa Plus Pro circulating among industry watchers. As Amazon continues to enhance its streaming capabilities, the exact implications of this new release on consumer preferences and market dynamics remain to be seen.

For those following tech developments in the streaming device arena, the introduction of the 4K Select, along with the upcoming rebranding of the original 4K model, marks a significant shift in Amazon’s approach to the competitive landscape of streaming hardware.
