USCPSC Warns of Fire Hazards Linked to Anker Power Banks
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC) has issued a formal notice regarding five Anker power banks recalled due to fire hazards. The agency reports that it has received 33 reports of fires and explosions related to these devices, resulting in several injuries and property damage, reports 24brussels.
Among the reports, four incidents resulted in minor burn injuries, while one case led to substantial property damage. Approximately 481,000 units of Anker power banks are involved in this recall.
The recalled units, widely used for charging devices, include the Anker Power Bank (models A1257 and A1647), the Anker MagGo Power Bank (model A1652), and the Anker Zolo Power Bank (models A1681 and A1689). They were sold through various retailers, including Best Buy, Target, and Amazon, from August 2023 to June 2025.
Although Anker asserted that the likelihood of malfunction is minimal, it initiated the global recall out of an abundance of caution following the identification of a potential issue with lithium-ion batteries supplied by one of its partners.
The USCPSC urges consumers in possession of any recalled units to cease usage immediately and to dispose of them correctly at facilities equipped to handle lithium-ion batteries. These devices should not be discarded in regular trash or recycling bins. Anker is providing a full refund or a gift card for future purchases of Anker products, requiring consumers to submit a form with the power bank’s serial number and proof of purchase.
This situation highlights ongoing concerns regarding battery safety and the responsibilities of manufacturers to proactively address potential hazards in their products. As technology continues to evolve, vigilance and safety protocols must adapt to ensure consumer protection.
