Apple addresses misinformation about iPhone 13 Pro Max trade-in offers on TikTok

TikTok Misinterprets Apple Trade-In Offers for iPhone 13 Pro Max

Following the recent launch of the iPhone 17, TikTok has been flooded with videos falsely claiming that Apple is offering significant trade-in discounts specifically for the iPhone 13 Pro Max, prompting viral speculation surrounding the device. Many videos, which have been viewed nearly 7 million times, suggest that Apple is desperate to reclaim this particular model, reports 24brussels.

During the iPhone 17 launch, Apple’s marketing chief Greg “Joz” Joswiak stated that customers could receive up to $1,100 off with a trade-in of the iPhone 13 Pro or newer. This moment was seized by TikTok users as proof of unusually generous trade-in deals, though a closer examination reveals similarities between his current statements and those made during previous iPhone launches.

Specifically, when trading in a 13 Pro Max for a new iPhone 17 directly from Apple, customers can expect only up to $320 in credit. The more substantial $1,100 figure arises from carrier deals rather than direct Apple promotions. To benefit from this offer, customers must trade in their device as part of a costly plan, adding further complexity to the perceived value of the trade-in offers.

Despite the sensationalism surrounding the 13 Pro Max, it appears the model’s significance in trade-in pricing is less about its merit as a superior iPhone and more about the strategic assessments of carriers. TikTok’s rapid dissemination of misinformation has perpetuated a cycle of speculation, showcasing how viral moments can obscure factual details.

Interestingly, some TikTok users have suggested that current 13 Pro Max owners should consider retaining their devices instead of opting for trade-ins, a sentiment that aligns with maintaining customer satisfaction over succumbing to market-driven incentives.
