Apple Launches Innovative 40W Dynamic Power Adapter

Apple has introduced its first charger to support the USB PD 3.2 AVS protocol with the launch of the 40W Dynamic Power Adapter, designed to enhance the charging experience of its latest iPhone 17 lineup, reports 24brussels.

The Adjustable Voltage Supply (AVS) feature provides precise voltage options that improve the efficiency of charging various devices, including smartphones and laptops. This innovative approach enables faster charging while maintaining the safety and longevity of the batteries.

Despite its 40W rating, this GA charger can sustain a peak of 60W only for a limited duration of 18 minutes, according to testing on the r/UsbCHardware subreddit. This makes it suitable for quickly charging the iPhone 17 but inadequate for devices like the MacBook Pro, prompting Apple to specify it as a 40W charger “with 60W Max.”

To achieve the fast charging specifications claimed for the iPhone 17 models—up to 50 percent charge in 20 minutes—users may need to invest in Apple’s separate Dynamic Power Adapter or consider alternatives from companies like Anker that are compatible with the new protocol.
