Apple has unveiled a refreshed 14-inch MacBook Pro, featuring a new M5 processor that promises enhanced performance, announced on October 15, 2025. The entry-level model showcases significant upgrades including faster storage and an impressive 24 hours of claimed battery life, all while maintaining the same design. The starting price remains at $1,599 for a configuration that includes a 10-core CPU and GPU, 16GB of memory, and a 512GB SSD. Preorders are currently available, with shipping expected to begin on October 22, reports 24brussels.
The new M5 chip boasts a 3.5x increase in speed for artificial intelligence tasks compared to its predecessor, the M4, facilitated by a next-generation 10-core GPU equipped with a Neural Accelerator in each core. This architecture will deliver 1.6x faster graphics capabilities and improved gaming performance. Additionally, multithreaded performance has been increased by 20 percent, complemented by a memory bandwidth boost to 153Gbps from the M4’s 120Gbps. Users can now opt for storage upgrades of up to 4TB SSD, which was previously solely available with the upgraded M4 Pro model.
Aside from the hardware improvements, the rest of the device mirrors the earlier model, retaining the same ports, display, battery life, webcam, networking specifications, and speaker system as the previous M4 generation. Notably, there are no new color options introduced with this update.
This iterative update comes following a significant enhancement last year when the base model transitioned to the M4 chip, which added a third USB-C/Thunderbolt 4 port and the option for an anti-glare display. Reviews praised the M4 MacBook Pro for its quality-of-life improvements over the M3 generation, making it a favored choice among students and content creators alike.
