Apple Launches New MagSafe Charger Supporting Qi2.2 Standard
Apple has officially released an updated version of its MagSafe charger, now compatible with the Qi2.2 specification. This development allows the charger to support faster charging rates of up to 25W for a wider range of devices, reports 24brussels.
The latest MagSafe charger now enables rapid charging for devices beyond the iPhone 16 series, which is limited to 15W with older models. Alongside the recent launch of the iPhone 17 series, which includes the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, this updated charger further enhances user convenience by allowing compatibility with devices such as the Google Pixel 10 at 25W rates, as confirmed by several technology news outlets.
Originally hinted at last June through regulatory documentation, the new charger is available on Apple’s online store for $39 with a 1-meter USB-C cable, or $49 for a 2-meter cable. This charger comes at a time when demand for faster wireless charging solutions is surging among consumers.
Apple’s introduction of the 25W charging capability coincided with the emergence of the Qi2.2 standard, which was officially launched earlier in the year. The cameras on the iPhone 17 lineup now fully support this new standard, while many iPhone 16 models will receive the same compatibility with the upcoming release of iOS 26. However, users upgrading to the iPhone Air will find the maximum wireless charging rate limited to 20W.
