Bose to discontinue cloud support for SoundTouch speakers in February 2026

The consumer electronics company Bose has announced plans to discontinue cloud-based features for its SoundTouch speakers starting February 18, 2026, which will include the loss of integrated services such as Spotify and multi-room playback, reports 24brussels.

Beginning on the set date, the SoundTouch app will cease to function, removing users’ ability to control their speakers remotely. “After February 18, certain features—including access to integrated music services like Spotify and TuneIn, as well as multi-room playback—will no longer be available,” stated Bose. Despite these changes, users will still have the option to enjoy audio playback through Bluetooth, AUX, or HDMI connections on supported devices.

Bose outlined the specific impacts of this decision, noting that standalone SoundTouch speakers, including the SoundTouch 10, 20 Series III, and 30 Series III, may still function when connected to local sources; however, long-term performance is not guaranteed. Furthermore, SoundTouch home theater products, such as the Lifestyle 650 and SoundTouch 300 Soundbar, will continue to provide HDMI and optical inputs as well as Bluetooth functionality.

The SoundTouch line was first launched in 2013, but Bose acknowledged that evolving technology has made it unsustainable to maintain the required cloud infrastructure. The company previously indicated a shift away from the SoundTouch lineup in 2020, when they announced plans to discontinue sales of some products while committing to support the software associated with the SoundTouch app.

In conjunction with the cessation of cloud services, Bose will also stop providing security updates for SoundTouch products and has no plans to introduce a replacement app or platform. “We do not plan to support SoundTouch products through any other app,” the company confirmed.

This announcement has generated significant backlash among users, with over 260 comments on a discussion thread in the Bose subreddit expressing dissatisfaction. One user remarked, “I have literally spent many thousands on these products. What a slap in the face. They are basically doorstops now.”

As of now, Bose has not responded to requests for further comment regarding these changes.
