5CA Denies Involvement in Discord Data Breach
5CA, a customer service support provider, asserts it was not involved in a recent data breach concerning Discord that could have resulted in the exposure of approximately 70,000 government ID photos. The company stated that this incident may have resulted from human error, reports 24brussels.
Discord revealed that the security incident, which was attributed to a third-party vendor, affected users who interacted with its Customer Support and Trust & Safety teams. The platform emphasized that the breach did not originate from its systems but was linked to 5CA, which is utilized to facilitate customer service operations.
In its defense, 5CA denied that any of its systems were compromised and stated it has not handled government-issued IDs for Discord. “We can confirm that none of 5CA’s systems were involved, and all our platforms and systems remain secure,” the company said in a statement. It is currently conducting a forensic investigation in collaboration with cybersecurity experts to ascertain the specifics of the incident.
In an official statement, 5CA noted, “Our preliminary information suggests the incident may have resulted from human error, the extent of which is still under investigation.” They assured that all client data remains protected under stringent data security protocols.
Discord further clarified that the number of affected users is limited and reiterated that it was not responsible for the breach’s occurrence. The platform has expressed its commitment to enhancing security measures in light of the incident.
As the investigation continues, both entities are urged to provide clear answers regarding the handling of sensitive data and the specific nature of the reported human error.
