DJI Launches Mini Wireless Microphone System with Enhanced Features

DJI has unveiled its latest wireless lavalier microphone, the Mic 3, which is significantly smaller than its predecessor, the Mic 2, yet retains essential features and battery performance. The Mic 3, weighing only 16 grams, introduces adaptive gain control modes, three voice tone presets, and an increase in storage capacity for internal recordings, reports 24brussels.

This innovative microphone system can accommodate up to four transmitters and eight receivers simultaneously, making it ideal for large group recordings with a range of 400 meters (1,312 feet). The Mic 3 automatically shifts between 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands to ensure stable transmissions and minimize interference. Additionally, it offers a two-level active noise cancellation feature designed to reduce background noise.

The adaptive gain control includes an Automatic setting to suppress volume spikes in noisy environments and a Dynamic mode for relatively quieter settings, such as studios. Users can choose from three voice tone presets — Regular, Rich, and Bright — to enhance vocal clarity based on the speaker’s characteristics.

Weighing in at just 16 grams, the Mic 3 is comparable to the 10-gram Mic Mini that DJI released last year. However, it maintains critical features such as built-in backup recording to safeguard audio data and a touchscreen display on the receiver for easy monitoring of settings and battery levels. It offers 32GB of internal storage, significantly more than the 8GB available on the Mic 2, supporting dual-file recordings in 24-bit and 32-bit floating point formats.

Battery life for the Mic 3 is positioned between the previous models, with the receiver lasting up to eight hours and the transmitter up to ten hours. In comparison, the Mic 2 provided six hours, while the Mic Mini boasted up to 11.5 hours for the transmitter and 10.5 hours for the receiver. The charging case for the Mic 3 promises 2.4 full charges, amounting to 28 hours of additional use.

Details regarding pricing and release timelines remain unconfirmed. DJI has indicated that the Mic 3 will not be released immediately in the U.S., suggesting an initial launch in other markets. The previous Mic 2 system was priced at $219 for the two-microphone transmitter kit, while the Mic Mini is offered at $169. As such, the market awaits to see how the Mic 3 will be priced upon its arrival in the U.S.
