F1 The Movie Achieves Record-Breaking Success

Since its wide theatrical release on June 27, 2025, “F1 The Movie” has shattered records, debuting at No. 1 and grossing over $629 million at the global box office, reports 24brussels. The film not only claims the title of the highest-grossing sports film but also emerges as this year’s top original feature and secures the largest opening for an original live-action film in the United States in the past five years, marking Brad Pitt’s highest-grossing film to date. With an A CinemaScore and a remarkable 97% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, it has garnered widespread acclaim as the most authentic racing film ever produced.

“It’s been thrilling to see audiences around the world embrace ‘F1 The Movie’ in theaters,” said producer Jerry Bruckheimer. “Now, we’re beyond excited to bring this exhilarating, cinematic ride to fans everywhere through Apple TV’s unparalleled global reach. Partnering with Apple and Formula 1 has been an incredible journey, and we’re proud that even more viewers, from every corner of the world, will get to experience the heart-pounding action and passion that defines ‘F1 The Movie.’”

The film follows the story of Sonny Hayes, portrayed by Brad Pitt, once hailed as Formula 1®’s most promising prodigy in the 1990s, whose career faced a life-threatening setback due to an accident. Now, three decades later, he returns as a racing mercenary when his former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), owner of a faltering Formula 1® team, persuades him to attempt to save the team. Alongside rookie driver Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), Sonny confronts not just the challenges of the racetrack but also the ghosts of his past, illustrating the fierce competition inherent in Formula 1®.

“F1 The Movie” features an impressive cast, including Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Kim Bodnia, and was filmed during actual Grand Prix weekends, competing against the sport’s giants. The production team includes Jerry Bruckheimer, director Joseph Kosinski, seven-time Formula 1® world champion Lewis Hamilton, producer Dede Gardner, and others.

Directed by Kosinski from a screenplay by Ehren Kruger, the film’s story unfolds through the collaborative efforts of Kosinski and Kruger. Executive producer Daniel Lupi and a creative team, including director of photography Claudio Miranda and composer Hans Zimmer, contributed to the project’s artistic vision.

In addition to box office success, “F1 The Movie” has spurred a global music phenomenon with F1® The Album, a high-energy soundtrack that has sold over 650,000 copies worldwide and amassed more than one billion streams. Currently, it dominates Billboard’s Top Movie Songs chart, boasting seven tracks in the top ten, propelled by Tate McRae’s hit “Just Keep Watching.” The album has not only achieved critical acclaim but also become a significant cultural milestone in 2025.

The film is a collaborative project presented by Apple Original Films and Warner Bros. Pictures, under the banners of Monolith Pictures, Jerry Bruckheimer Films, Plan B Entertainment, and Dawn Apollo Films, marking it as a Joseph Kosinski Film distributed globally by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Apple TV+ has rebranded simply as Apple TV, showcasing a vibrant new identity. While waiting for its global streaming debut, “F1 The Movie” remains available for purchase on various digital platforms, including the Apple TV app, Amazon Prime Video, and Fandango at Home.
