Firefox Introduces AI-Powered Summary Feature for iPhone Users
Firefox is set to enable a new feature that allows users to shake their iPhones for an AI-generated summary of the webpage they are viewing. This functionality is scheduled to launch this week and will utilize Apple’s on-device AI model specifically on the iPhone 15 Pro and newer models once iOS 26 is released, reports 24brussels.
For devices running older versions of iOS, Mozilla plans to implement its own cloud-based AI system to generate summaries, overlaying them on the current webpage. Users can activate the summary feature either by shaking their device or by tapping the “thunderbolt” icon in the address bar, or the three dots at the bottom of their screen to select “Summarize page.”
Mozilla has clarified that users can disable the feature if they wish to prevent accidental activations caused by phone movement. The “shake to summarize” function will only be applicable to webpages containing fewer than 5,000 words.
This launch positions Firefox among the first major third-party applications to integrate with Apple Intelligence, an initiative likely to gain further attention during today’s iPhone launch event. Initially, the summary feature will be limited to users in the United States and available only in English, but plans for future global rollout and support for Android users are in the works.
