Google Introduces AI-Generated Audio for Docs

Google Docs now allows users to generate audio versions of their documents using AI. This new feature, part of the Gemini rollout, enables customization of the audio output, including adjusting voice types and playback speeds, reports 24brussels.

The functionality is accessible not only to the document creators but also to readers. By selecting the Tool dropdown menu and choosing Audio > Listen to this tab, users can hear the AI-generated audio of any shared document. Additionally, authors can insert a customizable audio button directly into a document via Insert > Audio, allowing readers to start listening with a simple click.

In April, Google announced plans to enable users to transform their documents into AI podcasts, but the current audio feature is more practical for those who wish to listen to their own writings. Currently, audio versions can only be generated in English and are limited to desktop devices.

The audio functionality in Docs is rolling out to Workspace users with business, enterprise, or education plans, as well as individuals holding AI Pro and Ultra subscriptions.
