Google has announced that users of the US and UK versions of the 3rd gen Nest Learning Thermostat and the Nest Thermostat E can now schedule temperature adjustments using the Google Home app, reports 24brussels.
This significant update eliminates the need for the dedicated Nest app, which was previously required for scheduling by users of these older models. They can now take full advantage of the scheduling features offered by the Google Home app, a capability that has been available for newer Nest thermostat versions.
The feature “began rolling out starting last week,” and Google notes that it may not yet be accessible to all users of the Nest thermostat. This update follows an announcement in April, where the company stated it would also end software updates for the first-generation Nest Learning thermostat launched in 2011 and its second-generation counterpart released in 2012.
Users existing temperature schedules in the Nest app will be transferred to the Home app, which additionally permits setting sensor and fan schedules. Alongside this, Google introduced overall enhancements to its Home app for all Nest thermostats, including more vibrant colors and updated descriptions that improve visibility of the device’s heating and cooling states. A refreshed energy dashboard has also been included, offering detailed and comparative year-over-year energy usage metrics.
This development underscores Google’s commitment to enhancing user experience for its smart home products while transitioning legacy devices into the more integrated Google ecosystem, reflecting a trend toward streamlining home automation management.
