Google Introduces ‘Guided Learning’ Mode for Gemini AI
Google has launched a new feature for its Gemini AI called ‘Guided Learning,’ aimed at enhancing user comprehension rather than simply providing answers. This mode facilitates interactive learning through a series of supportive questions and step-by-step guidance, according to CEO Sundar Pichai, who described it as a “learning companion,” reports 24brussels.
The ‘Guided Learning’ mode is designed to include diverse educational resources such as images, videos, and interactive quizzes. Google collaborated with educators and learning experts to ensure this feature aligns with educational principles and effectively aids in the understanding of new concepts, as noted by Pichai in a blog update.
This initiative reflects a broader trend among AI companies venturing into the educational sector, striving to combat the negative perception that AI tools facilitate student cheating. Similar to ChatGPT’s recent study mode, the potential effectiveness of Gemini’s feature hinges on students’ willingness to engage with it for genuine learning rather than opting for quick answers.
As part of its rollout, Google is offering students aged 18 and older in the U.S., Japan, Indonesia, Korea, and Brazil the opportunity to sign up for 12 months of its AI Pro Plan for free, valid until October 6. Furthermore, the company is pledging $1 billion over three years to enhance American education, focusing on AI literacy and educational resources, according to Pichai.
