Google Enhances Home App with Gemini Features
On September 19, 2025, Google announced updates to its Home app, integrating features from its newly introduced Gemini platform for smart home devices. The latest update signals significant changes aimed at enhancing user experience, reports 24brussels.
In a thorough examination of the upcoming version 3.41.50.3, Android Authority discovered a notable redesign that prioritizes Gemini functionalities. While the overall user interface remains largely unchanged, the adjustments streamline the app’s usability by emphasizing Gemini’s role.
New functionalities allow users to interact with devices through a search bar labeled “Ask Home,” which can be utilized both via voice and text input. This feature facilitates control of smart home devices and enables users to retrieve detailed descriptions of past actions within their home settings.
Google’s pre-existing announcement highlighted that Gemini would be compatible with its smart speakers and displays, supporting voice commands for device control. It is therefore logical for these capabilities to extend to the Home app.
Further updates include a rebranding of the Favorites tab to “Home,” while the Devices and Settings tab has been removed from the bottom navigation bar, leaving three primary icons. Devices will now be accessible through a grid icon on the Home tab, enhancing navigation.
The update appears to add functionalities such as outdoor air quality and temperature monitoring as favorite tiles, alongside new icons for video surveillance and temperature readings on the Home page. The introduction of these icons may indicate upcoming hardware releases from Google’s Nest line, anticipated next month.
Industry watchers are hopeful that the major refresh of the app will also integrate various features that Google had previously tested during its Public Preview program.
