Google’s Upcoming Smart Speaker Revealed
A new smart speaker showcased at the recent Pixel event is confirmed to be in development and will feature compatibility with the Google TV Streamer, reports 24brussels.
The speaker, which allegedly runs on Gemini technology, is expected to launch in multiple colors including bright red, light green, black, and white. Images of the device suggest a design that differs from previous models, incorporating a light around the base rather than the top and featuring a fabric finish.
Key functionalities include pairing with the Google TV Streamer to provide spatial audio capabilities, mirroring a feature found in Apple’s HomePods. It is also anticipated to support TVs operating on the Google TV platform, alongside enhanced natural voice options capable of detecting unusual sounds such as breaking glass or smoke alarms, as well as full compliance with Matter standards.
While traditionally powered by Google Assistant, this new speaker will utilize Gemini for its intelligent features. Google announced this transition during the Pixel event, stating that existing Nest devices will receive the Gemini update starting in October. The update will introduce a premium subscription tier and Gemini Live capabilities, although specifics regarding the premium features remain unclear.
The device is tentatively titled the “Home Speaker,” although its final name has yet to be confirmed. A fall launch coinciding with the advent of Gemini for Home appears probable. Furthermore, speculation surrounds an updated smart display from Google, considering that the Nest Hub line has not seen enhancements since 2021, with the market showing a growing preference for devices equipped with screens that effectively support smart assistants.
