LinkedIn Implements New Verification Process to Combat Recruitment Scams
LinkedIn is taking significant strides to curb recruitment scams by mandating that individuals with recruitment or executive job titles verify their workplaces. This new verification requirement extends to executives involved in hiring processes, as the platform broadens its effort to enhance trust among users, reports 24brussels.
The verification process aims to bolster job seekers’ confidence by ensuring that only legitimate recruiters and executives are identifiable on the platform. While current recruiters will not need to verify their statuses immediately, anyone who updates or adds a recruitment-related job title—such as “Recruiter” or “Talent Acquisition Specialist”—must complete the verification process.
Verification is free and primarily involves confirming possession of a company email address. Oscar Rodriguez, LinkedIn’s vice president of trust, emphasized that this update “helps job-seekers identify legitimate recruiters and avoid scams.” The platform already offers verified recruiter labels available to those with a paid LinkedIn recruiter license.
Executives will also undergo this verification, which is now compulsory for titles including “Executive Director” and “Vice President.” Additionally, LinkedIn has begun expanding its company page verification capabilities, transitioning from a previously limited access model that required special requests to one that is universally available to any company boasting a premium subscription.
Since the launch of the verification feature in 2023, LinkedIn reports that over 80 million users have successfully completed the verification process. Earlier this year, the platform expanded its verification beyond its own network, allowing users from platforms like Adobe to showcase “Verified on LinkedIn” badges.
