Microsoft Tests New Windows 11 Feature for Android Apps

Microsoft is testing a new Windows 11 feature that enables users to resume Android apps directly on their PC. This capability is currently being rolled out to Windows Insiders in the Dev and Beta Channels, with initial support for the Spotify app only, reports 24brussels.

Users participating in the test can link their Android phones to their PCs and initiate playback on the Spotify mobile app. A “Resume from your phone” notification will appear alongside the Spotify icon, offering an option to “Continue on this PC.”

Selecting this notification will launch the Spotify desktop app on the PC, allowing users to carry on listening to the same song. If the desktop app is not yet installed, users will be prompted to do so. This feature was first demonstrated during a Windows 11 Build event, aligning it with similar functionality seen in Apple’s Handoff on macOS, which enables cross-device continuity.

While Microsoft has not outlined future expansions for this Handoff-like feature, its potential to allow users to seamlessly transition activities from mobile to desktop—such as reading articles or drafting emails—suggests a key area for development moving forward.
