Chinese Modder Develops iPadBook with Dual Operating Systems
In a creative response to Apple’s reluctance to merge iPadOS and macOS, a Chinese modder has designed a unique laptop called the iPadBook that integrates both operating systems. This innovative device allows users to seamlessly switch between macOS and iPadOS by detaching its screen, reports 24brussels.
Modder Shu Chan initiated the project by removing the display from an M1 MacBook Air and implementing a custom 3D-printed magnetic hinge named MagBaka. This hinge employs 12 magnets to securely attach an iPad Pro, which serves as the laptop’s display. The dock is designed to work in tandem with a custom case specifically for the iPad Pro. Despite the iPad not being as wide as the MacBook Air, the mod boasts a level of polish that closely resembles Apple’s own designs.
When the iPad Pro is connected, it functions as the primary display for the MacBook Air, offering touch and Apple Pencil support. Detaching the tablet transforms it back into a standard iPad Pro powered by the M4 chip.
