Nothing Launches Ear 3 with Innovative ‘Super Mic’ Feature
Nothing has officially announced its latest product, the Ear 3 earbuds, which include a groundbreaking ‘Super Mic’ in the charging case designed to enhance call clarity and voice notes, reports 24brussels.
The Ear 3 features two built-in microphones within the charging case, enabling users to make calls and record voice memos with improved audio quality over traditional earbud microphones. The ‘Talk’ button on the case activates the microphones, although users must have the earbuds connected to their devices for optimal performance.
Despite the promising technology, early testing indicates that users may not experience significant improvements in call clarity compared to previous models. Anthony Freshwater, Nothing’s head of global smart products marketing, acknowledged limitations in compatibility with popular video apps, stating Super Mic won’t function with default camera applications on both iOS and Android platforms, although support from third-party video apps such as Blackmagic is expected.
Consistent with previous models, the Ear 3 maintains a semi-transparent design available in black or white, and features a more durable construction with metal components. The earbuds are equipped with 12mm drivers, spatial audio support, LDAC Hi-Res audio capabilities, and a personalized EQ, ensuring a versatile listening experience.
Battery life is rated at five and a half hours with active noise cancellation engaged, totaling 22 hours with the charging case. Wireless charging is also available. Consumers may find the product’s pricing, set at $179, appealing, with preorders beginning today and a full release scheduled for September 25.
Notably, the naming of the Ear 3 has sparked confusion, given the irregular sequence following previous releases. Nevertheless, if numerical discrepancies are not a deterrent, the new earbuds promise to contribute to a growing trend in the portable audio market.
