Sony has announced the introduction of new firmware updates for its premium noise-canceling wireless headphones, specifically the WF-1000XM5 earbuds and WH-1000XM6 headphones. These updates, which can be accessed through Sony’s Sound Connect mobile app, include enhanced features such as support for audio sharing and Google’s Gemini Live conversational AI assistant, reports 24brussels.
The most significant addition is the implementation of Audio Sharing with Fast Pair, leveraging the Bluetooth LE Audio’s Auracast functionality. This update allows users with compatible Android devices, including various models from Google Pixel, Samsung Galaxy, and OnePlus, to simultaneously connect two wireless headphones. This feature enables users to share audio with a friend or facilitate group listening via a QR code or Google Fast Pair.
Additionally, both headphone models will receive updates to unspecified “system software security features,” alongside enhanced support for digital assistants and head tracking during Bluetooth LE Audio connections. Following the firmware update, users will need to re-pair their headphones to their devices for full functionality.
The WF-1000XM5 earbuds will also see improvements in tracking capabilities via Google’s Find Hub network, allowing users to locate each earbud individually. Furthermore, users can now disable Find Hub support without relying on the charging case, which was previously mandatory.
These updates reflect Sony’s ongoing commitment to enhancing user experience and integrating new technologies into their audio products, solidifying their position in the competitive premium headphone market.
