Tado Launches AI-Powered Features to Optimize Home Heating

Smart thermostat company Tado is launching new AI-powered features aimed at enhancing home heating efficiency. The AI Assist update builds on the existing Auto Assist options by introducing advanced machine-learning capabilities that learn, predict, and optimize heating in real-time, reports 24brussels.

Available starting September 23, 2025, AI Assist is offered in Europe and the UK to all Tado X owners at the same subscription rate of £29.99 annually or £3.99 monthly. Current Auto Assist subscribers will receive the upgraded features automatically, although users of older Tado hardware will not benefit from the additional AI functionalities. Key features of the update include:

  • Adaptive Heating: This feature learns the distinct heating and cooling characteristics of each room and fine-tunes Smart Radiator Thermostat controls to enhance both comfort and energy efficiency.
  • Preheat Before Arrival: Tado AI utilizes machine learning to predict when users will return home, enabling the system to preheat the residence accordingly.
  • Energy IQ: The feature provides AI-driven insights into energy use, helping users make informed decisions to reduce costs.
  • Holiday Mode: Users can set heating to align with their absence, ensuring they return to a comfortable environment while minimizing energy consumption.

While features such as Energy IQ and an Away Mode were already part of Tado’s Auto Assist service, the introduction of AI Assist may not represent a significant technological advancement. Competing smart home companies like Nest have similarly offered these capabilities without designating them as AI innovations, raising questions about the substantive nature of Tado’s new AI branding.

The implications of these new features for energy efficiency and cost savings could resonate with eco-conscious consumers across Europe, as energy prices continue to fluctuate amid global market pressures. Tado’s latest offerings illustrate the ongoing trend toward smart home technologies that not only simplify home management but also encourage sustainable practices. As the market for smart home products grows, the necessity for brands like Tado to distinguish their offerings on technological grounds becomes ever more critical.
