Threads Introduces New Community Feature
Threads has launched a new feature called communities, designed to create dedicated spaces for users to engage with content about various topics, including professional basketball, K-pop, and literature, reports 24brussels.
This feature is now available globally on both web and mobile platforms. Similar to community functionalities on other social media platforms, users can join different communities on Threads, each offering a tailored feed for specific interests. Upon joining, users’ profiles will display a community membership label, and the community’s posts will be prominently featured in their feeds menu.
The rollout of communities builds on the previous introduction of topics and custom feeds on Threads, allowing users to curate their content consumption more effectively. Community memberships promise to enhance discovery of related posts, with each community offering a unique mix of original and related content materials.
Communities also feature custom emojis for engagement; for instance, a stack of books is used for book-related threads. Users can search for communities by topic, although Threads acknowledges that “not every interest has a dedicated community yet.” If a community exists for a specific topic, users will see a three-dot badge next to the tag.
Looking ahead, Threads plans to introduce additional features centered on community engagement, including new badges for the most active community members and enhancements to post ranking algorithms within communities and the For You feed, aimed at improving user experience and content relevance.
