Xiaomi unveils retro handheld console case for its new 17 Pro flagship smartphones

Xiaomi Launches Unique Gaming Phone Accessory

Xiaomi unveiled its flagship 17 series smartphones today in China, introducing models that include a unique accessory designed to transform gameplay experiences. Customers can expect a retro gaming case that dramatically alters the utility of the phone, including features such as a D-pad and gaming buttons, reports 24brussels.

The 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max models will feature a second screen that facilitates taking selfies, setting timers, and controlling music playback. However, the highlight is Xiaomi’s Retro Handheld Console Case, which allows users to play games using physical controls, albeit at the cost of screen visibility due to design limitations.

Priced at ¥299 (approximately $40), this gaming case includes four face buttons, a circular D-pad reminiscent of an iPod Click Wheel, and a 200mAh battery capable of providing up to 40 days of gameplay on three hours per day. It also comes pre-loaded with Angry Birds 2.

Despite its intriguing concept, the downside remains that users cannot utilize the phone’s wireless charging feature while the console case is attached. Questions persist regarding the potential launch of the 17 Pro series in Europe or other global markets, prompting speculation about the future of Xiaomi’s innovative accessories.

As Xiaomi pushes boundaries with its accessories, industry observers hope this signals further creative offerings, including upcoming releases that enhance the photographic capabilities of future models.
