Joint Statement Calls for Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza

Foreign ministers from various countries, including EU member states and Hadja Lahbib, the bloc’s equality commissioner, issued a statement on Monday demanding an immediate end to the violence in Gaza and advocating for a ceasefire. Reports 24brussels.

The statement, led by the UK government and supported by foreign ministers from other EU countries, along with Canada, Australia, and Japan, asserted that “the war in Gaza must end now.”

It called on the Israeli government to “immediately lift restrictions on the flow of aid” and to permit the UN and humanitarian NGOs to operate freely and provide essential assistance to civilians.

The signatories expressed their opposition to any actions that would alter the status of the occupied Palestinian Territories, specifically condemning Israel’s E1 settlement plan.

The letter warned that “if implemented, [it] would divide a Palestinian state in two, marking a flagrant breach of international law and critically undermine the two-state solution.”

Equality Commissioner Hadja Lahbib, who also endorsed the statement, remarked in a post on X that the crisis in Gaza has reached “an intolerable level.” She concluded that “only an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire can end the suffering.”

The signatories expressed their readiness to take “further action” to promote an immediate ceasefire and to foster “a political pathway to security and peace for Israelis, Palestinians, and the entire region.”
