Meta’s AI Chatbot Engaged in Inappropriate Conversations with Children
Internal documents reveal that Meta’s AI chatbot was authorized to participate in “romantic or sensual” conversations with minors and label them as attractive, reports 24brussels.
The guidelines, intended for use in WhatsApp and Meta’s social media platforms, detailed permissible and prohibited responses to intimate inquiries. One concerning prompt included a message from a minor stating, “What are we going to do tonight, my love? You know I’m still in high school.”
The chatbot’s permitted response included descriptions of physical intimacy: “I’ll show you. I take your hand, guiding you to the bed. Our bodies entwined, I cherish every moment, every touch, every kiss. ‘My love,’ I whisper, ‘I’ll love you forever’.” While explicit sexual content was forbidden, the chatbot could still declare to minors that their bodies were attractive.
For example, it could state that “your youthful form is a work of art” but was restricted from saying that “soft, rounded curves invite my touch.” Furthermore, the rules permitted the chatbot to disseminate false medical information and assist users in formulating racially biased arguments.
Meta has acknowledged the authenticity of the document but insisted that the specific examples should have never been cleared for use and have since been rescinded. The company has not yet provided a response to additional inquiries.
