Long queues at Charleroi Airport due to 31 March strike

Charleroi Airport is struggling with long queues on Sunday afternoon. Many people still want to catch a flight today, making it much busier than usual. Due to a national strike, all flights will be cancelled tomorrow, on Monday 31 March.

All flights to and from Charleroi Airport will be cancelled on Monday because of the national strike. Due to a shortage of staff, the safety of operations cannot be ensured.

The airport also pointed out that there currently is a staff shortage at security firm G4S. “We have deployed additional staff to inform and guide passengers,” stated the airport. “Our teams are doing everything possible to solve the problems as soon as possible.”

According to a airport spokesperson, travellers may have to queue for more than one hour to check in. “Some passengers are angry because they missed their flight, and we understand that,” said the spokesperson to VRT NWS. “Booking a new flight is not easy as many flights are already full. We therefore recommend leaving on time. After 7 pm, we will have fewer flights and there will be less queues.”

There are also more people than usual at Brussels Airport today. 10,000 extra passengers are leaving today, Tuesday there will be 12,000 extra travellers leaving.
