Brussels to Host Urban Sports Event from July 4 to 6
From July 4 to 6, Brussels’ Cinquantenaire Park will feature the Brussels Urban Sessions, a summer event dedicated to sports such as BMX Freestyle, skateboarding, breakdancing, 3×3 basketball, and parkour, alongside street art and music. The primary goal is to enhance accessibility to sports and promote new forms of cultural expression., reports 24brussels.
The City of Brussels’ sports alderwoman, Florence Frelinx, emphasized the event’s focus on the “universal, accessible, playful and affordable” essence of these sports. In a press release, she noted, “These sports are deeply rooted in our urban reality… They bring people together and create communities.”
Frelinx highlighted that sports serve as a powerful way to showcase Brussels’ beauty. “Similar to the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris, I want to forge a strong connection between sport and heritage in Brussels. Hosting sports at our iconic locations enables us to appreciate our heritage while keeping it accessible and lively for the people,” she said.
In addition to the central event at Cinquantenaire Park, the City of Brussels will organize the “Urban Sports in Brussels” series of free initiation classes, scheduled for July 2 across three neighborhoods.
This initiative aims to bring urban sports to a broader audience, integrating culture and community engagement into the fabric of Brussels’ city life.
