Jeline Vandromme Reaches US Open Junior Final
Jeline Vandromme has qualified for the final of the junior draw at the US Open tennis tournament, the final Grand Slam event of the season. The 17-year-old from Bruges is the first Belgian finalist since Kirsten Flipkens, who won the junior event in 2003, reports 24brussels.
Seeded 14th in New York and ranked 21st in the junior draw, Vandromme delivered a commanding performance against Britain’s Hannah Klugman, who is ranked 2, in the semi-finals on Friday. The match concluded with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
In the final, she will confront either Lea Nilsson of Sweden or Britain’s Mika Stojsavljevic on Saturday.
Vandromme has now achieved an impressive streak of 22 consecutive singles victories, including five wins in this culminating Grand Slam tournament of the season.
Prior to this tournament, she had never advanced beyond the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam, having reached that stage at both Wimbledon and the French Open in 2024, as well as at the Australian Open earlier this year.
In addition to her singles success, Vandromme is also set to compete in the doubles semi-finals later on Friday, partnering with Lithuania’s Laima Vladson. They will face the duo of Thailand’s Kamonwan Yodpetch and China’s Ruien Zhang.
