Nina Pinzarrone has finished seventh at the World Figure Skating Championships in Boston, in the US. As a result, she qualified for next year’s Winter Olympics in Italy and even secured Belgium a possible second Olympic ticket. The world title went to American Alysa Liu, who kept Japan’s Kaori Sakamoto from a fourth consecutive world title.

Pinzarrone was in eighth place after the short program with a score of 67.74. During the free skate on Friday, local time, the 18-year-old received 131.69 points for her performance. This gave her a total of 199.43 points, with which she obtained seventh place. Remarkably, Pinzarrone was only preceded by three American and three Japanese competitors.

Thanks to her place in the top ten, Pinzarrone is assured of qualification for the Winter Games and her fellow Belgian Loena Hendrickx also retains the prospect of Olympic participation. Hendrickx, who herself stood on the World Cup podium twice, had to skip the Boston tournament due to an ankle injury. But she now gets a second chance at an Olympic qualifying tournament in China in September.
