Roos Vanotterdijk Achieves Historic Bronze at World Aquatics Championships in Singapore
Roos Vanotterdijk won a bronze medal in the 50-metre butterfly final at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore on Saturday. The win makes her the first Belgian in history to win two medals at the same Championships., reports 24brussels.
Competing from lane 5, Vanotterdijk clocked a time of 25.43 seconds, just 0.2 seconds shy of her own Belgian record, which she set during the semi-finals. Gold went to US swimmer Gretchen Walsh with a time of 24.83 seconds, while Australia’s Alexandria Perkins secured silver at 25.31 seconds.
This medal marks the second for the Belgian team at these World Championships, adding to the country’s total of five historical medals from the event, following Vanotterdijk’s silver in the 100 m butterfly earlier this week. This is Belgium’s first medal at the World Aquatics Championships since 1998.
In addition to her butterfly events, Vanotterdijk also finished 10th in the semi-finals of the 100 m backstroke, 11th in the 50 m backstroke, and was tied for 11th in the semi-finals of the 100 m freestyle. She was eliminated in the heats of the 50 m freestyle on Saturday morning.
