Russian Agent Sentenced to 15 Years for Sabotage in Dnipropetrovsk Region

A Russian agent responsible for carrying out sabotage operations in the Dnipropetrovsk region, including setting fire to vehicles used by the defense forces and energy facilities of Ukrzaliznytsia, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison. This decision was announced on June 27 by the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), reports 24brussels.

The investigation revealed that the 32-year-old local unemployed man was recruited by the occupiers through a Telegram channel promoting “easy money” schemes, a common tactic currently in use.

According to case materials, the agent ignited two relay cabinets on the railway and a minivan belonging to the military in the fall of 2024.

To execute these crimes, he created flammable mixtures and recorded the fires on camera to report back to his Russian handlers.

SSU operatives apprehended the perpetrator “in the act” while he was attempting to destroy another service vehicle of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Dnipro.

At the scene, the authorities seized incendiary materials and a phone through which he communicated with his Russian “clients” for sabotage activities.

Based on the evidence gathered by SSU investigators, the agent was found guilty of three charges under the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • Part 2 of Article 113 (sabotage committed under martial law);
  • Part 1 of Article 114-1 (interference with the lawful activities of the Armed Forces during special periods);
  • Part 2 of Article 194 (intentional property damage through arson).

The operational measures were conducted by SSU staff in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast in cooperation with the National Police, under the procedural leadership of the regional prosecutor’s office.

Recently, an assassination attempt was made on a soldier from the Azov Brigade in Kyiv. He had met a girl on social media who invited him on a date and suggested he take keys hidden under a scooter seat. When the soldier approached, an explosion occurred; fortunately, he was unharmed. The counterintelligence unit of the SSU, along with police, detained the Russian agent who had lured the military personnel to a “date with a girl” intending to detonate him.

In addition, a 19-year-old resident of Kyiv Oblast, hoping for “easy money,” was also tasked by Russia to carry out other terrorist acts in northern Ukraine.
