Ukrainian Air Defense Intercepts Russian Target Near Dnipro

Ukrainian military sources reported that a Russian cruise missile nearly reached the city of Dnipro. The Air Force of Ukraine confirmed the incident, stating the type of aerial object remains unidentified pending analysis of the debris from the impact site, reports 24brussels.

Around 11:30 AM, an aerial target was detected over the temporarily occupied territory of Zaporizhzhia, launched from a tactical aviation aircraft. The object traveled over 100 kilometers before being intercepted by air defense systems outside Dnipro, military officials stated.

Monitoring channels noted that the range of this object—at least 120 kilometers—suggests that it is a hybrid weapon, possibly between a cruise missile and a gliding bomb. This incident most closely resembles the “Grom-E1.” This is a modified X-38 missile with a warhead weighing approximately 300 kilograms, a rocket engine, and an operational range of around 120 kilometers.

Officials stated that, at this time, there are no significant reasons for concern regarding this type of weapon, apart from the potential attempts by Russian tactical aviation to approach closer to Ukrainian territory.

Subsequently, the information provided by military analysts was corroborated by local authorities. Head of the Dnipro Regional Military Administration, Serhii Lysak, confirmed that the air defense shot down a new bomb-missile known as “Grom-1.”

In related news, on June 27, Russian forces targeted the city of Samara in the Dnipropetrovsk region with ballistic missiles, resulting in the deaths of five individuals.
