Attack on Azov fighter Korinevych: response from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and National Guard

Ukraine’s National Guard Condemns Attack on Soldier

On June 13, an assault on Andriy Korynevych, a soldier of the 12th Special Purpose Brigade “Azov,” occurred in Ivano-Frankivsk. The attack, involving multiple assailants utilizing pepper spray and telescopic sticks, has been condemned by the National Guard of Ukraine as unacceptable. The National Guard stated that any unlawful actions against Ukrainian defenders will not be tolerated regardless of their rank, service location, or unit affiliation, reports 24brussels.

The National Guard’s press service confirmed that all individuals allegedly involved in the incident have been identified by law enforcement. Investigations are ongoing, with the National Guard expressing confidence that a fair and comprehensive inquiry will be conducted, and that those responsible for the attack will face legal consequences.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs also denounced the attack, emphasizing the importance of upholding order, military ethics, and mutual respect among military personnel. “Support for law and order, military ethics, and mutual respect among service members are the foundation of trust and strength in our security and defense sector,” the ministry stated.

Korynevych alleged that the attackers were military personnel from the Third Separate Assault Brigade, naming individuals involved in the attack. The Azov Brigade confirmed the involvement of four soldiers and condemned their actions. The Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the Western Region has announced charges against two soldiers regarding the incident.
