Belarusian Military on High Alert, No Signs of Aggression Toward Ukraine
Despite the announcement of a full combat readiness of the Belarusian military, Minsk is not exhibiting any indications of active preparations for an offensive or troop movements toward the Ukrainian border, reports 24brussels.
Andriy Demchenko, spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (DPSU), stated during a national telethon that the announced readiness checks are not new and form a continuous process in Belarus.
“Belarus will consistently escalate tensions through its readiness checks, whether for the entire army or specific units. Joint exercises, such as those recently completed with Russia, will also continue,” explained Demchenko.
Threat Persists, Situation Remains Calm
Demchenko emphasized the need for a sober assessment of the situation in Belarus, while remaining prepared for any scenario. He noted that it was through the Belarusian border that Russian troops launched their full-scale invasion in 2022.
At the same time, he indicated that there is currently no cause for alarm.
“First and foremost, to reassure: there has not been any activity near our border, and there is also no activity in Belarus at present,” the official underscored.
The DPSU reports no movements of military equipment or personnel towards the Ukrainian border.
Demchenko explained that since 2022, Belarus has maintained certain units near the Ukrainian territory allegedly to “reinforce the area,” as they claim to expect a threat from Ukraine.
“Fortunately, Belarus is not undertaking any other actions towards our border,” added the spokesman.
Despite the current absence of military maneuvers, Demchenko reiterated that the northern front remains a significant threat to Ukraine. The Armed Forces of Ukraine and border guards continue to strengthen the border and surrounding areas to counter any potential danger originating from Belarus.
Furthermore, Belarus recently announced that it has allegedly deployed the Russian ballistic system “Oreshnik” within its territory.
