Russian Forces Raise Flag at Border Crossing in Chernihiv Region

On July 5, 2025, Russian occupation forces displayed their tricolor flag at the “Hremiach” border crossing within Ukraine’s Chernihiv region. This action appears to be a propaganda move aimed at suggesting that Russian forces have seized control of the area, according to Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard of Ukraine, reports 24brussels.

Demchenko stated that Ukrainian aerial reconnaissance detected the Russian flag, which was subsequently destroyed by Ukrainian military forces. He emphasized that Russian forces have not established a foothold at the “Hremiach” crossing.

Although the activity of Russian saboteurs has decreased, the threat from their reconnaissance and sabotage groups remains significant. “Recently, one Russian sabotage and reconnaissance group was discovered attempting to plant explosives on roads near the border. They expected that Ukrainian military forces would trigger them, but immediate fire was opened on the occupiers,” Demchenko highlighted.

In November 2024, Russian forces similarly raised their tricolor flag at the border with Chernihiv region, specifically at a destroyed bridge over the Sudost river.
