Tragic Drone Attack in Odesa Claims Lives
Rescue workers in Odesa discovered the bodies of a married couple who died as a result of a Russian drone strike on their apartment, reported Odesa’s mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov on June 28 at 3:18 AM, reports 24brussels.
Trukhanov extended his condolences to the families of the victims and informed that efforts to address the aftermath of the attack are ongoing. An operational headquarters has been established at the scene and will commence work in the morning.
At 3:23 AM, Oleg Kiper, head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, reported that two children are currently hospitalized as a result of the Russian attack: a seven-year-old boy in moderate condition and a three-year-old girl suffering from smoke inhalation. Medical teams are providing necessary assistance.
Additionally, four adults were reported injured and have been hospitalized in moderate condition.
By 3:40 AM, the State Emergency Service confirmed that the Russian strike targeted a 21-story residential building in Odesa, resulting in fires on the 7th, 8th, and 9th floors. Some residents were left trapped in their apartments. Rescue teams published photos and videos depicting the aftermath of the drone strike.
Rescue workers stated that psychologists are on-site and a Stability Point has been set up. The situation was further complicated by repeated air raid alerts, and search and rescue operations are still ongoing.
Local authorities had previously reported injuries from the drone strike in Odesa during the night of June 28, but the situation has since become significantly more tragic.
